Kevin Correia was activated from the bereavement list to start Saturday night’s game against the Dodgers.
Making room on the roster is the demotion of Adam Russell, who threw 4 1/3 scoreless, hitless innings earlier in the season but did not appear in a game during his most recent callup.
The move puts the Padres at a normal seven-man bullpen for the first time since Correia took leave–reliever Tim Stauffer made Correia’s last start, and then was DL’ed and replaced by another reliever.
Russell heads back to Triple-A, where he was struggling with a 9.00 ERA.
