With their 15th round selection in the 2010 draft, the Padres took their first first baseman of the draft, high schooler Sean Dwyer.

The fourth Florida high schooler selected by the Padres, Dwyer is a lefty swinger who played all over the place in high school: pitcher, first base, third base, and the outfield. He’s projected to play first base in pro ball, although scouts haven’t rules out left field as an option.

Dwyer is known as an all-around hitter with a textbook swing who can hit for both average and power. His inability to man a key defensive spot does put pressure on his bat to perform, but at age 18, Dwyer should have plenty of time to make adjustments.

Dwyer hit .444/.663/.926 with five homers as a senior. He’s committed to Florida Gulf Coast.
