Padres Select HS LHP Michael Fagan in 45th Round of 2010 MLB Draft

The Padres selected their first high schooler in several rounds with Michael Fagan in the 45th.

Fagan is a small lefty who struck out a ridiculous 103 in 46 innings as a high school senior.

You never know with high school stats; almost every HS draftee posts ridiculous numbers due to greater competition variance, and some high school areas boast far more talent than others.

Fagan is a Princeton commit, and like seventh-rounder A.J. Vanegas, a Stanford commit, that’s going to be extra-tough to break due to the academic profile of the school.

I’d be surprised if Fagan signs, but if he does, it’ll be interesting to see if that otherworldly strikeout rate is for real or just a product of bad competition.
