OK... maybe not MVP.. might have stepped way too high on that, BUT Hairston provided offense and clutch at bats for the team and as soon as he went down we started struggling. His going down also coincided with Adrian hurting his shoulder and Ludwick just playing absolutely terrible with runners on base.

Tony Gwynn is terrible offensively, but he added something that the other players couldn't on defense. that doesnt matter now with the trade for Maybin.

You are correct though, with this is what is wrong with the Padres. We don't have a lot of offensive talent on this team and there is not a lot of room to maneuver to get some players. We need to keep players like Torrealba, Tejada, Denorfria, and Ludwick.

The offense will continue to be weak with Headley at 3B, Eckstein at 2B, a streaky Venable, and now a streaky Maybin. What more can you expect from young players like that. AND we are looking to move GONZO and that will just weaken the lineup even more.

This article demonstrates what's wrong with the Padres.
Almost all of these players are bad offensively, some are terrible. Are you out of your mind by saying Jerry Hairston might have been the team MVP? His OBP was .299 !!!
And Tony Gwynn "hit" .204. Eckstein, Ludwick, Tejada, Denorfia? Gotta keep all of them, they're the only hitters on the club besides Gonzalez.
