Kevin Frandsen doesn’t make the cut

Kevin Frandsen did not make the cut for the opening day roster with the Padres. He struggled with the bat in the spring and just could not get things going.

"We just didn’t think there would be a fit on the team for Kevin – Bud Black"

The question will be to see who will be the backup shortstop/utility infielder on the team. Everth Cabrera would be the next option if the Padres look to fill the position with a player that is in house. Cabrera needs to improve his skills with the bat, but he can provide good defense and speed on the base paths.

The Padres could also look at possible trade opportunities or wait to see if any players hit the waiver wire at the end of spring. There have been some rumblings about Luis Hernandez from the Mets, Alberto Gonzalez of the Nationals, and Robert Andino of the Orioles.
