San Diego Padres 6 – Pittsburgh Pirates 5

Mat Latos did everything he could to try and get his first victory of the season. He pitched 6 strong innings and struck out 5 batters. He also homered to in the 3rd inning to start a 3-run burst in that inning. He left the game in the 7th inning and passed the game over to the bullpen.

The bullpen could not hold the lead for Latos, with Luke Gregerson giving up 3 runs in the 7th. The Padres had to rally back in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game and a home run by Rob Johnson in the 8th inning gave the Padres the lead for good. Heath Bell came in to close it out for his 7th save of the season.

The Padres hit 3 home runs in the game. They either benefited from the warm conditions on the night OR they are just shy and don’t want to hit in front of crowds. The attendance for the game was announced at 18,636, but it seemed as if there was barely anyone to see this victory.

It feels good to be back in the victory column and we have now won 3-of-4 games. Tomorrow we get a chance to take the series.
