All these stolen bases and still can’t score runs

We came into last night’s ballgame second in the league in stolen bases with 33, only trailing the Kansas City Royals who had 35. But we are dead LAST in the league in batting average and on base percentage. Could you imagine where we would be if we could only get on base? Orlando Hudson already has a career high in stolen bases with 10 and its only the third day in May.

It all goes for not, since we are AWFUL with runners in scoring position. Maybe we should stop stealing bases and stay at first base hoping the the batter gets an extra base hit to knock in the run. All this speed on the base paths have not been rewarded yet, but it is giving us more opportunities to score some runs. We are getting over to second base and allow a player like Will Venable to strand them by striking out. Hopefully it will eventually change to Will Venable moving the runner over to third or a single to knock in the run.

The speed on the team is there, the bats just need to wake up to drive these guys home. Get ’em on, get ’em over, get ’em home! That’s the way we need to play without the big bat in the lineup and it just has not happened yet. We have perfected the ‘getting ’em over’ part by the power of the stolen base. We just need to figure out how the ‘get ’em on’ and ‘get ’em home’ parts of that equation.
