Headley and Hawpe blow Bells chance at history

Heath Bell came into tonight’s game with 41 STRAIGHT saves and was looking to pass Trevor Hoffman for the record. Heath was called into the game in the 9th inning and had a comfortable 3 run lead and it looked like we were going to see history.

The “Drama Queen” started out the ninth inning by walking the first 2 Arizona hitters. Then Gerardo Parra doubled to score a run and now there were runners on second and third with NO outs.

Heath Bell then turned up the heat and struck out the next 2 batters. 2 outs with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Kelly Johnson coming to the plate. Johnson came up and hit a grounder over to Chase Headley who fielded the ball cleanly. Headley then SKIPPED the ball over to first baseman Brad Hawpe and Hawpe was not able to handle it. Johnson was safe at first and both runners scored to END THE SAVE STREAK.

What a disaster of a way to end the consecutive saves streak. Bell was betrayed by his team’s defense and will have to start a new streak. FAIL.
