Padres waste good pitching performance from Mat Latos

Washington Nationals 2 – San Diego Padres 1

Mat Latos deserved much better tonight. He made one mistake that left the yard and gave up 2 runs. He picked up his seventh loss on the season while pitching 6 innings and striking out 6.

Anthony Rizzo reached base three times, but he left the bases loaded when he struck out in the sixth inning. Jorge Cantu left the seven men on base and was 0-for-4 on the night.

It is sad to have a hitter that is batting under .200 behind Rizzo, especially when Rizzo found a way to get on base three times. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Rizzo led it off by drawing a walk and Cantu followed it up by grounding into a double play to kill the inning.

This loss should be taken from Mat Latos and given to Cantu. We will have to get after it tomorrow!
