He was a closer in their system and was successful at the minor league level. When the Padres did pick up Brad Boxberger, I wrote a piece discussing whether either of them would become the future closer and if so which one. Now with Cashner, I think both will have to take a back seat. I'd really love to see the Padres give Cashner a chance at starting. Unless there is more to his rotator cuff injury, that doesn't seem like the type of set back that derails a player's chance at starting. @lynchmob I based that statement on his projections while with the Indians. I see he's who we got for Aaron Cunningham (December was a busy month for me :-)) ... which doesn't make it obvious to me that he's a top prospect ...
