It was another loss, but in this one Carlos Quentin showed off his stuff.  Quentin went 2 for 2 with a double and a walk.  Unfortunately, starter Dustin Moseley struggled in the first and the first three Padres pitchers of the game gave up runs.

Dustin Ackley of the Mariners led the way for the “away” club as the Mariners beat the Padres 13-7.  Ackley had three hits including a double and a triple.  He also scored twice.  Ichiro Suzuki made his first start against the Padres, walked, and scored a run.

For the Padres, Matt Clark, one of the team’s many first base prospects, went 1 for 1 with an RBI.  Yonder Alonso went 1 for 3 as well.  But it was the Padres minor league prospects and lower-tier players that did most of the damage.

Blake Tekotte scored a run, Jaff Decker hit a ninth inning solo home run, Rymer Liriano went 1 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI.  Edinson Rincon and Jason Hagerty also contributed.  Rincon scored two runs and Hagerty drove in a pair.

The Padres dropped to 0-2 in the young spring training schedule, but they have seen both their offense and their pitching shine at times.

The Padres will take on the Royals today in Surprise, Arizona at 12:05 PT.
