Chase Headley Sits Out With Tight Lower Back

He is calling it “tight.”  Chase Headley missed his second game in a row this spring, and two out of the first three.  He was initially scheduled to play, but when he arrived at the park, he had trouble getting lose and was a late scratch.

"I don’t think it’s anything terribly serious by any means. But where we are right now, there’s no reason to push it. I think that we will probably take a day or two and let it calm down, and hopefully I’ll be back."

According to Corey Brock of Padres.com, Headley tried stretching his back yesterday but it didn’t respond well. Aside from illnesses, Headley was the fourth Padre to be limited by injury, whether is be minor or more concerning.

Jason Bartlett has been sidelined with a sore right knee, and Logan Forsythe will be re-evaluated soon to see if surgery will be required on a broken bone in his foot.  Chris Denorfia was the first Padre to experience some pain this spring, also tightness of the back.

As much as Headley surely wants to get back on the field, spring training is long, and there is plenty of time for him to get some game action in the upcoming weeks.  It’s smart to limit him and keep him out of games until his bad feels 100%.
