Carlos Quentin Getting Closer to Returning to the Padres Lineup

He is eligible to come off the disabled list April 18th, but Carlos Quentin, who is no stranger to injury, certainly knows the the schedule date of return is not always the actual date.  There are set backs, slower than normal recovery times, and fitting in rehabilitation assignments.  All that said, Quentin is on pace and is ready to begin taking live batting practice.  He was previously relegated to the batting cages as he recovered from knee surgery.

Quentin underwent arthroscopic left knee surgery after suffering an injury to the knee in spring training.  He had similar surgery on the right knee last year.  In Quentin’s absence, the Padres have been playing Jesus Guzman in left field.  Guzman already has one error in the field and was lucky not to be charged another last night.  His bat has been considerably cooler than most expected over the first seven games of the season as well.

Quentin’s return to the lineup can’t come soon enough as the Padres continue to struggle offensively.  Their first seven games have been exposed a glaring inability to collect timely hits.  Quentin may not be able to change that, but his return will at least shake the lineup around a bit.

Quentin hit .533/.588/.867 this spring in 15 a-bats.  He has a career regular season slash-line of .252/.346/.490.
