Aaron Harang Dominates as the Padres Fall to the Dodgers

Aaron Harang seems to have the Padres’ number.  Whether is be a solid performance, a dazzling one like he had when he struck out 13 Padres, or a shut-out like last night, Harang has dominated the Padres since switching clubs and moving north.  Despite his success, he had won against the Padres for quite some time.  That changed last night as the Dodgers took care of the Padres 8-1 yesterday.

Harang went 7 innings, didn’t allow a run, and drove in a run of his own.  He allowed just four hits and struck out six.

The Dodgers were able to get to Padres’s starter Edinson Volquez early and often. Volquez allowed two quick runs in the top of the first.  He allowed another in the third and two more in the fifth.  When he exited the game after five innings, Volquez had given up seven hits and five runs.  Of those five, only three were earned.

John Baker was the bright spot for San Diego.  He went 2 for 3 with two doubles while filling in for Nick Hundley.

Everth Cabrera and Alexi Amarista made their 2012 debuts with Orlando Hudson‘s release and Jason Bartlett‘s trip to the DL.  Neither had a hit in the game, but they were a welcome relief from what fans had grown to see up the middle.

James Darnell, another relatively recent addition to the big league club, left the game after dislocating his left shoulder.  Darnell was playing left field and dove for a ball hit into the gap.  He landed on the shoulder and dislocated it.  It’s the same shoulder he dislocated last season.

The Padres lone run came after an error by James Loney in the ninth allowed Chase Headley to second.  He would later come around to score, but that would be it for the Friars.

The Padres take on the Angels in the first inter-league game of the season tonight.  Jeff Suppan will take on Jered Weaver at 7:05 PT.
