LO-GONE! Forsythe’s First Career Bomb Wins It For The Padres

Tuesday, June 5th 2012, is sure to be a night that Logan Forsythe will never forget. Forsythe slammed a walk-off solo homer in the 9th, giving the Padres their most dramatic win of the season. Forsythe also made one of the greatest defensive plays I have ever seen. Forsythe dove for a ball in right field that was destined to be a hit. Instead, Forsythe fielded the ball, and threw a strike to third. The play helped stamp out a Giants rally.

The Padres had the arduous task of dealing with arch-nemesis Tim Lincecum. As Robert Moreno alluded to, Lineceum has devoured Padres hitters in his career – posting a 10-4 record, with an ERA of 1.84 in 19 starts against the Friars. However, this is not the Timmy of old, as he as pitched more like Tim Redding this year – and tonight was no exception.

The Padres jumped all over Timmy, scoring four runs in the second inning. Carlos Quentin slammed a solo shot into the left field stands, giving the Padres their first run. Everth Cabrera sent an RBI single up the middle, and Cameron Maybin roped a two-run double. Four runs off of Lineceum looked promising, but the Padres could not hold the lead.

With the score 4-1 Padres in the top of the 6th, the Giants rallied for three runs off of Padres starter Anthony Bass. Bass struggled in the sixth, and gave up 4 earned runs in 5.1 innings. He took the no-decision.

The Giants took a 5-4 in the top of the 7th, on an RBI single by Ryan Theriot. Theriot was a pest in this one, collecting three hits and two walks. He also drove in three runs.

The Padres had some magic left in the bats, after all. Carlos Quentin slammed his fifth bomb of the year, this one going out to center. That blast tied the game at 5, and set up the bottom of the ninth dramatics at Petco.

Forysthe slammed a 1-0 pitch in the second deck for a dramatic walk-off win for the Padres. Forsythe had his second consecutive multi-hit game, and is making a case to stay in the future plans of the Padres.

Huston Street gets the win, pitching a scoreless ninth, despite allowing three baserunners. It was Street’s first appearance since coming off of the DL. A battle of lefties is on tap for tomorrow’s game, with Clayton Richard taking on Madison Bumgarner.

NOTES: The Padres activated Street from the DL, and optioned Miles Mikolas to AAA Tucson. Mikolas was 1-1 with a 3.29 in 13 outings for the Padres in 2012.
