Throwdown Thursday – Week 11

Everth Cabrera took the Week 10 Throwdown Thursday honor, after defeating starting pitcher and teammate Jason Marquis  in last week’s Throwdown Thursday poll.

The votes weren’t even close, 86 percent of the Chicken Friar voters voted for Cabrera while only 14 percent wanted Marquis.

Cabrera’s winning performance included a .429 batting average with one home run, four RBI, nine hits and four stolen bases. He also got it done on the defensive end by making some spectacular plays.

While Cabrera added another solid week, it wasn’t good enough to land on this week’s ballot.

The Week 11 Throwdown Thursday competition features a pitching duel.  One pitcher is making his second straight appearance on the ballot, while the other is the inaugural Throwdown Thursday champion: Jason Marquis vs. Clayton Richard.

Jason Marquis- Marquis recorded a 2-1 loss last week against the Texas Rangers. But the way Marquis pitched, you wouldn’t think he was the losing pitcher. After giving up the two-runs in the first inning, he settled down quite nicely.  Marquis (3-6) went on to strikeout a season-high 10 batters, while allowing just five hits and three walks in seven innings of work. At one point, Marquis cruised to retire 10 straight batters, including three consecutive strikeouts, and collected his 1,000 career strikeout in his 13 Major League season.

Clayton Richard-  Richard found his way back on to the Throwdown Thursday ballot by pitching 7 2/3 scoreless innings while yielding five hits against the Oakland Athletics.  This was second road win in a week. In his outing versus the A’s, Richard struck out six, walked two and got 13 ground ball outs. Richard had pin point control, throwing his fastball where he wanted it and throwing curveballs that hit the dirt.

Now Padres fans, vote in our poll for the Padres performer of the week.  Is it Marquis or Richard?
