Hungry For Pitching Depth, Padres Claim Hamburger

The Padres tried to take a bite out of their pitching woes, and claimed Mark Hamburger off waivers from Texas Rangers. Hamburger was immediately optioned to AAA Tucson. In order to make room for Hamburger, the Padres transferred Jeremy Hermida to the 60-day DL.

Hamburger pitched for Rangers in 2011, and posted a 1-0 record, with a 4.50 ERA in 5 appearances last year. Hamburger has pitched for AAA Round Rock this year, and has an 0-2 record, with a 6.55 ERA in 21 appearances(3 starts).

S

eedlings to Stars did a piece on Hamburger last season, and has this to say about the Padres latest acquisition: “He averaged 93 MPH on his fastball last year, in his brief time with the Rangers. He mixes in a slurvy slider in the 79-84 MPH range.”

Hopefully this a move that the Padres will relish, and we can see Hamburger bring that high cheese!
