Padres Rocked In Colorado, Lose 10-2

The Padres turned in a rather ugly performance at Coors Field Friday night, losing to the Colorado Rockies 10-2. The Padres could do nothing offensively against Rockies starter Jeff Francis, who came into the game sporting an ugly 7.24 ERA. Francis pitched six shutout innings against the Friars.

The Rockies effectively put the game away in the sixth inning, scored four runs off of Padres starter Jason Marquis. Marquis pitching line looks ugly, as he gave up five earned runs in six innings, but he did pitch better than that, and the Padres defense did him no favors.

The Padres finally got on the board in the seventh inning, when Carlos Quentin slammed his 7th home run of the year, a mammoth shot to left.

The Padres pushed across another run in the eighth, and looked poised to add more. Alexi Amarista led off the inning with a double, and he scored on an RBI single by Will Venable. After a Logan Forsythe walk, the Padres brought their two best hitters to the plate: Chase Headley and Carlos Quentin.

However, Chase Headley and Carlos Quentin both struck out, and Yonder Alonso lined out to right to end the threat, and any chance the Padres had to climb back into the game.

The Rockies added four runs in the eighth off of reliever Alex Hinshaw.
