Padres Set To Recall Nick Hundley

The Padres will recall Nick Hundley from AAA, according to Jeff Sanders of the North County Times.

Hundley was sent down on June 29, when the team recalled top prospect Yasmani Grandal. Hundley got off to a brutal start in 2012, hitting just .166 in 55 games. As usual, Hundley still played solid defense, and was adept at throwing out baserunners, but the offensive struggles were too large to ignore.

Hundley was sent to AAA to get his confidence back, but he was hitting just .190 in AAA. Hundley also spent some time on the disabled list with a hamstring issue.

In a corresponding move, catcher Eddy Rodriguez was optioned to AAA. Rodriguez played in two games for the Padres, and homered in his first MLB at-bat.

Hundley has had a disastrous 2012 season, and recalling him does not seem beneficial. Ultimately, Grandal will return, and Hundley needs at-bats to try and turn his career around. It will be interesting to see if Hundley starts, or becomes the backup to John Baker.
