The Padres brought back minor league outfielder Sawyer Carroll from Toronto, in exchange for cash considerations. The move was reported by Matt Eddy of Baseball America.
Carroll, 26, was taken in last month’s AAA phase of the Rule 5 draft. The Padres thought enough of the outfielder to reacquire him.
Carroll was the Padres third round pick in 2008, out of the University of Kentucky. Last year with Tucson, Carroll produced a triple-slash line of .263/.337/.401, with 8 homers and 56 RBI’s.
Carroll is too old to be considered a prospect, but he will give the Padres some depth at Tucson. With a good spring, Sawyer could be in the mix for a roster spot.
