I hope all of you fans had a fantastic weekend. It’s a shame the Friars squandered a sweep versus the Dodgers, but the team is still .500 after 76 games. Anyway, here is the “Daily Padres Roundup:”
- Cash Kruth of MLB.com wrote an terrific piece on San Diego’s 1st round pick in this past April’s draft, Hunter Renfroe. For those of you not following the College World Series, Renfroe and the rest of the Mississippi State Bulldogs are set to start the best-of-three championship series against the UCLA Bruins beginning tonight.
- Jeremy Warnemuende of MLB.com shares his thoughts on tonight’s game between the Padres and Phillies. The game begins at 7:10 tonight at Petco Park.
- Will the Padres be “buyers” at the trade deadline next month? Zach Links of MLB Trade Rumors (via Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.com) says that California-native Ricky Nolasco might peak the Friars’ interests, especially since the team needs starting rotation-help.
- San Diego continues to tinker with their bullpen. After the franchise called up Anthony Bass and Brad Boxberger a couple of days ago, they sent both down in favor of Miles Mikolas and Brad Brach after Saturday’s game according to Jamal Collier. To their credit, Bass and Boxberger pitched well in mop-up duty on Saturday. Personally, I’d like to see all four of these guys receiving chances to close games for the Friars. I mean, Huston Street has to be on thin-ice for his gopher-balls, right?
