Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:

  • Now that the Friars have plummeted into last place in their division, the idea of the franchise being a “buyers” at the trade deadline makes less sense by the day.  On Wednesday, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that G.M. Josh Byrnes and the rest of San Diego’s brass are not seeking “rentals” at the end of this month.
  • As most of you know, Tim Lincecum “no-hit” the Padres last Saturday night.  With no-hitters in mind, A.J. Cassavell of MLB.com discussed how nobody in San Diego’s franchise history has ever thrown a no-hitter (or a perfect game) as a member of the club.  Cassavell shares some of the franchise’s “close calls” over the years, including Steve Arlin’s one-hit bid back in 1972.
  • Chad Thornburg of MLB.com provided a preview for the Friars’ first game back from the All-Star break against St. Louis.  Jason Marquis, a former Cardinal and current Padre, will take the mound in game one of San Diego’s first post-break series.
