Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:

• The Padres signed Jason Lane, most recently of the Sugarland Skeeters, to a contract on Sunday according to Charlie Wilmoth of MLB Trade Rumors (via Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle).  The left-handed relief pitcher has been assigned to Triple-A Tucson.  The former 1st round pick in 2002 was an outfielder in the big leagues, and he even suited up for the Friars during the 2007 season.

• San Diego’s starting rotation has been plagued by injuries all season long, and Jason Marquis is the most recent victim of the “injury bug.”  According to team beat writer Corey Brock, the veteran right-hander will miss the remainder of the 2013 regular season due to damage to his ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

• As much as it pains me to say it, I agreed with Jay Jaffe when he said that the Friars would be “sellers” at the trade deadline in his most recent piece on Sports Illustrated.com’s “The Strike Zone.”  Although Jaffe mentioned how Chase Headley is “untouchable,” he did state how Huston Street and Luke Gregerson could garner interest among “buyers” around the league.

• Street and Gregerson could very well be “trading chips” for the Friars as the end of the month nears, and Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports tweeted recently that the Tigers might be interested in acquiring one of the relievers.
