Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:
- Since the Friars are likely in “sell mode” at this point in the regular season, Matt Calkins of the San Diego Union-Tribune shared his thoughts on why he believes that the team should try to trade Carlos Quentin. While I disagree with Calkins on that particular subject, his article is nevertheless solid.
- It looks like the penalties for the “Biogenesis Scandal” will be handed out soon, and the Padres will likely be affected in some way. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.com, San Diego’s injured catcher, Yasmani Grandal, will likely escape a suspension due to the fact that he served 50 games before the season started. On the other hand, Everth Cabrera could be suspended for 50 games for his involvement. This would be a huge blow to the Friars, especially since Cabrera was the team’s lone All-Star representative, is the starting shortstop, and is the team’s leadoff hitter.
- John Maffei, also of the Union-Tribune, shared his thoughts on some of the most recent Padres-themed news such as Cameron Maybin’s road back from his knee injury.
- Sean O’Sullivan’s wife, Sabrina, is due to have their first child. With the child on the way, San Diego’s starter went on the “paternity list.” O’Sullivan can miss up to three games, so the Padres called up Miles Mikolas to fill in for the right-hander according to Corey Brock and Jamal Collier of Padres.com.
