Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:
- The highly-touted Austin Hedges is headed to Double-A San Antonio according to Corey Brock of Padres.com. San Diego’s 2012 2nd round pick played in the “Futures Game” at Citi Field last month before the All-Star break, and Hedges is considered one of the best catchers in minor league baseball.
- Marc Normandin of “SB Nation” shared his thoughts on the recent “Ian Kennedy to San Diego” trade. Normandin, like most, sees Kennedy’s presence as a positive for the Padres’ make-shift rotation. Moreover, I agree with Normandin that Kennedy should provide great insurance in case some of San Diego’s younger starters are unable to recover from their Tommy John surgeries by next year as well.
- Jayson Stark of ESPN listed the Padres among his “other winners” in an article about the MLB trade deadline “winners” and “losers.”
- Tom Schad of MLB.com shared his preview of Friday night’s game between the Padres and the Yankees. Andrew Cashner will face off against CC Sabathia in the first game of the three-game series.
