Daily Padres Roundup: August 2, 2013

Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:
- Joe Lemire of SI.com posted his new “MLB Power Rankings” on Thursday, and he moved the Padres up the ladder considerably. The Friars went from number 24 all the way up to number 18, and the big reason behind San Diego’s ascension was their deadline-acquisition of starting pitcher Ian Kennedy.
- Speaking of Kennedy, Jay Jaffe of SI.com’s “The Strike Zone” listed the Arizona Diamondbacks as one of his “Trade Deadline Losers.” Jaffe did not believe that the Diamondbacks received enough in exchange for their right-handed starter, and that they did not upgrade other areas of their team in the present with the move.
- Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune recently pondered whether Wednesday’s game against the Reds was the final one of the 2013 season for Everth Cabrera. With the “Biogenesis Suspensions” looming and only 53 games left to play, San Diego’s shortstop might very well have participated in the final game of a career-year.
