Everth Cabrera Out For Season

MLB completes its probe into Major League baseball players involved with Biogenesis, suspending 13 players on Monday night.  Alex Rodriguez is on the forefront of the MLB suspensions, and has drawn the most attention as well as acted as a lightening rod for the situation.  The probe and suspensions nevertheless hit home for the Padres as Everth Cabrera, the current NL stolen base leader, is given a 50 day suspension.  Everth he has accepted culpability for his actions and is out for the remainder of the season.

For me, not knowing exactly where the investigation would end up held me in uncertainty for the last few weeks as outcome rumors swirled around Everth.  This season has been fantastic for him, a great step forward for the speedster in terms of hitting left handers and providing excellent on base havoc.  Yet with the probe, it throws the results of the entire season into doubt.  I wanted very dearly to believe in Everth Cabrera – now I only have doubts.

With 50 games to go, the Padres find themselves 8 games behind .500, and 10.5 games out of first.  We have gone back to solid baseball, with our fourth series win in the row, with a jam packed weekend against the Yankees.  But now, big loss to team in all phases of the game, defense, base runner, and hitting.  Everth – this one hurts.
