Here is the “Daily Roundup,” Friars fans:

  • In minor league news, the Friars just promoted pitcher Keyvius Sampson from Double-A San Antonio to Triple-A Tucson according to Corey Brock and Jamal Collier of Padres.com.  Sampson definitely deserved the promotion, especially since he has posted a 10-4 record and a 2.26 ERA with the Missions so far this year.  In addition to Sampson, the once-troubled Donavan Tate was just promoted to Single-A Eugene as well.
  • Molly Tow of Bleacher Report wrote an interesting piece on Phil Hughes and how he might benefit from a change of scenery in San Diego.  The Yankees right-hander, who won 16 games in 2012, has been miserable this year to the tune of a 4-10 record and a 4.87 ERA in 21 starts.  While I am not sold on the Friars acquiring Hughes this offseason, the team does need starting pitching.
