No other additional details were released regarding the suicide other than that Hernandez died in his home of El Tigre, which is located East of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.

Hernandez played with the Padres for seven seasons between 1971-1977 and ultimately finished his Major League career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1978.

Hernandez’s body was found on Sunday, Jan.13. He was to have his 64th birthday on February 12.

The Venezuelan was not the best of hitters, as he had a career batting average of .224 with two home runs and 113 RBIs over 714 games played.

Although Hernandez wasn’t any good with his bat, it is his glove that former Padres pitcher Randy Jones remember his ex-teammate by.

“He was solid-as- a-rock in the infield,” Jones said on Padres.com

“He had pretty good speed, scored a few key runs for us. But, he was a solid, good-range shortstop who was a lot of fun to play with.”
