It’s official! There is absolutely no way Ross Ohlendorf will be a Padre. The Washington Nationals have signed him to a minor league contract, according to MLBTradeRumors.

Gosh! Are the Nationals stupid or what? Ohlendorf SUCKS! Don’t believe me? then check out his numbers from last year.

Aug 17, 2012; San Diego, CA, USA; San Diego Padres starting pitcher Ross Ohlendorf (59) wipes his face after being taken out of the game during the third inning against the San Francisco Giants at Petco Park.
The 30-year-old pitched in 48 2/3 innings for the Padres last season, but posted a woeful 7.77 earned run average. Some how, some way, Ohlendorf was a .500 pitcher, posting a 4-4 record.

It seemed to me everytime Ohlendorf would pitch, he would get racked. He blew so many wins for the Padres.

Out of desperation,Josh Byrnes took a gamble on Ohlendorf by signing him to a minor league contract in 2012.

Byrnes didn’t know what he was getting him self into, until he came to his senses on Sept. 7 when he released the right-hander.

If I am not making it any clear, I hate Ross Ohlendorf! He is second in line behind Ryan Ludwick as my most hated Padres in team history. So to know that Ohlendorf will not be a Padre makes my year.

Good Riddance Ohlendorf! and I hope you make the Nationals lose every time you pitch for them, just like you did in San Diego.

The Padres made a flurry of roster moves before Tuesday night’s game against Los Angeles. San Diego designated pitcher Ross Ohlendorf and catcher Eddy Rodriguez for assignment.

Ohlendorf was optioned to AAA Tucson, after a rough start on August 17th. For the season, Ohlendorf went 4-4, with a 7.77 ERA in 13 games(9 starts). The Padres signed Ohlendorf as a free agent, after he was released by the Red Sox. He turned 30 in August.

Aug 17, 2012; San Diego, CA, USA; San Diego Padres starting pitcher Ross Ohlendorf (59) wipes his face after being taken out of the game during the third inning against the San Francisco Giants at Petco Park.
Rodriguez was a great story, summoned to San Diego, via Lake Elsinore. Rodriguez hit a homer in his first ML start. Rodriguez had one hit in seven plate appearances. He hit .217 for Lake Elsinore and Tucson this season.

The Padres added catcher Ali Solis to the 40-man roster, and he joined the team in Los Angeles. Solis, who is 24, hails from Mexicali, and was a Texas League All-Star for the Missions this year. For the year, he posted a triple-slash line of .283/.307/.419, with 6 HR’s and 40 RBI’s. Solis is well-regarded in the organization for his ability to handle a pitching staff.

The Padres also recalled infielder Andy Parrino, as well as pitcher Brad Boxberger from AAA. Parrino hit .174 in limited action earlier in the season. Boxberger will be making his 4th trip to San Diego. He has posted a 3.52 ERA in 15 1/3 innings for the Padres this year.

The Padres have announced that Andrew Werner will start for the team Wednesday, in their series finale against the Pirates. Werner will take Ross Ohlendorf‘s spot in the rotation. Ohlendorf was optioned to AAA Tucson after his last start.

Werner, who is 25, has a very interesting path to the majors. He was signed as an undrafted free agent back in 2011 by the Padres. He toiled in the independent Frontier League for the Evansville Otters and the Windy City Thunderbolts. He played his college ball at the University of Indianapolis, which is a Division II school.

Werner has pitched for the Padres organization since 2011, when he made his organizational debut. He has pitched for AA San Antonio and AAA Tucson in 2012.

June 9, 2012; Milwaukee, WI, USA; San Diego Padres pitcher Ross Ohlendorf (59) pitches against the Milwaukee Brewers in the fourth inning at Miller Park. Mandatory Credit: Benny Sieu-US PRESSWIRE

Between the two minor league stops this year, Werner is 5-10, but with a very respectable 3.73 ERA. He even pitched a five-hit shutout for the T-Pads, a rarity in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

Werner is not a flame-thrower; his fastball tops out in the high 80′s, and throws a changeup. He has walked just 2.3 batters per nine innings in the minors this year. Werner should throw strikes for the Padres.

Werner will become the 14th different Padre to start a game this year.
